Today's Word—Journalists' (Mis)spent Life

The Life of Kings:

“As I look back over a misspent life, I find myself more and more convinced that I had more fun doing news reporting than in any other enterprise. It is really the life of kings.”
H. L. Mencken (1880-1956), journalist and curmudgeon, The Baltimore Sun, 1953 (Thanks to alert WORDster Tom Ferrell)

  2. I don't disagree with you--the news business has become either fluff or corporate or both. But there was never any lack of ideologues, at least when I was in the newsroom. Of course, those were the days of the Royal Standard and carbon paper...

    God, I'm old.
