Today's Word—Future Tense

.
Yes, Deepthroat, There Is a Future

“You get the truth by not working an hour or a day on something. It takes a long time. There’s a tradition in newspapers of digging into things. It’s a part of their culture. It’s a part of their belief in what we call accountability reporting—really making every power center accountable for what they’re doing. I think that’s going to live on.”
—Bob Woodward, journalist and author, 2008 (Thanks to alert WORDster Mark Larson)

  1. And when newspapers are trying to compete in the 'fast media' world, where is the motivation, time and money to fund in-depth,investigative reporting?

Its so frustrating to see newspapers continuing to attempt to compete in a market where, by their very nature they dont/cant compete, no matter what they do, including going on line....

I just wish someone (or a group of people) had the nerve and the savvy to establish and run newspapers under a different business model...
